    Biography

Dr Brendan Dias in academic regalia

Dr Brendan Dias is a Melbourne-trained Urologist and Robotic Surgeon committed to providing comprehensive care across all areas of general urology. He is a Consultant Urologist and Cancer Surgeon at Western Health, specialising in the management of prostate cancer, bladder cancer, kidney cancer, and penile cancers, and also serves as a visiting medical officer at Epworth Healthcare, Healthscope, Ramsay Health Care and St Vincent's Private Hospitals Melbourne.

Dr Dias has subspecialty expertise in uro-oncology, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, vascular access surgery, and male and female reconstructive and functional urology. He is internationally trained and among the few urologists to hold specialist qualifications across three countries. His robotic surgery expertise includes robotic prostatectomy, robotic partial nephrectomy, and robotic cystectomy.

He has a strong clinical focus on the surgical management of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and kidney stone disease. Dr Dias pioneered the introduction of Day Case Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP) at Western Health, driving a significant shift toward safer, faster, and more efficient same-day care for men with benign prostatic enlargement. His dedication to expanding access to advanced, evidence-based urological care has also seen him play a central role in establishing HoLEP programs at John Fawkner Private Hospital and Northern Private Hospital, ensuring patients across Melbourne's north-western corridor receive timely, high-quality treatment.

After completing his foundational training in General Surgery, Urology and Renal Transplantation, Dr Dias undertook an advanced robotic surgery fellowship at the OLV Hospital in Aalst, Belgium under Professor Alexandre Mottrie, an internationally recognised pioneer in robotic uro-oncology. He subsequently moved to Australia for further fellowship training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Western Health in renal transplantation, advanced laparoscopic uro-oncology and endourology.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Dias holds an academic appointment as Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Melbourne and serves as an examiner for both the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and the University of Melbourne. He has authored more than 50 peer-reviewed publications and co-authored a book chapter on robotic prostatectomy in kidney transplant recipients.
